Call it a miracle rally that just missed.
And a dream championship season that was slightly spoiled for a close-knit Mount Vernon team.
Boonville outshot and outplayed the Mountaineers for much of the Class 4 girls championship game on Saturday — and consequently led by 22 points halfway through the third quarter.
By the end, though, the Lady Pirates needed every one of their 13 fourth-quarter free throws to triumph 58-52 in the Class 4 MSHSAA Show-Me Showdown at JQH Arena.
It took for Boonville what Mount Vernon did on Friday night to triumph: The Lady Pirates hit 18-of-24 free throws on Saturday.
