Hunter Steinmetz has played baseball in Springfield all his life. Now he's going to have the opportunity to play professionally in Toronto.
The Missouri State star and Parkview High graduate was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 11th round with the No. 326 pick in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.
Steinmetz is coming off a season that earned him Missouri Valley Conference second-team honors. The centerfielder known for his diving catches also made the conference's all-defensive team.
The junior batted a career-high .307 hitting five home runs and driving in 37 runs for the Bears.
