Missouri State cutting field hockey program

MSU athletic director Kyle Moats announced at a press conference Monday that the university's field hockey program will be eliminated and replaced by beach volleyball. Moats said 17 athletes currently play field hockey.

The changes come from recommendations by a work group that was formed in February to cut $750,000 in athletics department expenses.

"It's the worst thing an athletics director can have happen, except for a death," Moats said. "It's not something you want to have happen."
