Justin Stevens was hunting with his 14-year-old daughter, Erika, in Christian County with 30 minutes of sunlight left when he noted the light was fading.
Stevens said his daughter wanted to stick it out, and it's good they did on opening weekend of firearms deer season.
They spotted a buck fighting two others in the timber before it looked at a spike that ran up behind the hunters. A spike buck is a male deer that is about two years old with unbranched antlers on both sides of its head.
"With a couple aggressive grunts he was in our face at only 35 yards, looking for a fight," Stevens said before his daughter killed the buck.
