Missouri State junior guard Dequon Miller was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Year on Tuesday afternoon.
Miller made an immediate impact on the Bears, starting all 30 games at guard after arriving from Motlow College in Tennessee. He averaged a team-high 12.7 points per game and displayed a flair for the dramatic.
He hit game-winning shots in the final seconds against Oklahoma State, Northern Iowa and Loyola, and hit a long 3-pointer at the end of regulation to force overtime against Illinois State. The Bears won that game, arguably the team’s biggest win of the season.
