Lady Bears use history as inspiration for Valley tourney

The last time the Missouri State women’s basketball team played in Moline, Illinois, they were the No. 3 seed, cutting down the nets after claiming the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament title and the league’s automatic NCAA Tournament berth.

The Lady Bears will be back in Moline for the league tournament starting Thursday, and they’re again the No. 3 seed.

It’s a coincidence that isn’t lost on the team.

“I don’t think I’ll have to remind this team that they won it last year as a three seed,” Lady Bears coach Kellie Harper said last week. “They’re probably thinking, ‘That’s a great number,’ even though that was the first year ever that a three seed won.
