A Springfield baseball player has opted to forgo a year of college and turn pro.
Shortstop Chandler Hall wasn’t selected in the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft. The Louisiana Tech junior confirmed to The News-Star (Monroe, Louisiana) that he signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Hall reported to the Phillies’ rookie-league Gulf Coast League team in Clearwater, Florida, but has yet to make his professional debut.
Hall made the decision shortly after news broke that Louisiana Tech coach Greg Goff would leave the program to coach at Alabama.
