Kickapoo associate head coach Leslie Hanchey will be promoted and become the fourth head coach in Lady Chiefs girls' basketball history, a source told the News-Leader on Friday.
The 2005 Kickapoo grad has been an associate head coach under Jim Pendergrass for the last seven years. She has been an assistant on the Lady Chiefs' sideline for the last 15 seasons.
Pendergrass, a state-championship-winning coach in 2016, recently departed Kickapoo to become Nixa's freshmen girls' coach. Jennifer Perryman stepped down as the Lady Eagles' head coach on Wednesday — leaving the door open for Pendergrass to possibly take over Kickapoo's Class 6 rival.
