Two area teens made history this month as they are among the nation’s first female Eagle Scouts.
Before 2019, girls were not allowed in the older Scouts BSA, formerly Boy Scouts of America, programs. One of the biggest changes that came alongside the announcement was that boys and girls could work toward the prestigious title of Eagle Scout.
Ozark Trails Council Development Director Kurtis Grothoff said the February 2019 changes opened the Scouts BSA program for girls ages 11-18. In February 2018, girls 5-10 years old could join the Cub Scouts.
