During the second week of the 2021 fall season, Missouri State found itself down by four with just over two minutes remaining. Quarterback Jason Shelley was making his first start behind center at Plaster Stadium.
A methodical drive followed with the Bears going 69 yards in 97 seconds. Shelley was quick in his decisions and finished the drive off with a 26-yard dart to Xavier Lane for the game-winning touchdown.
The "Cardiac Bears" were born.
Fast forward to over a year later and Shelley was behind center for the final home game of his career. Down five early in the fourth quarter, the quarterback needed to lead his team 92 yards for the go-ahead score.
