CHICAGO — Danielle Gitzen was removed from the game Saturday with 11 seconds remaining to a standing ovation.
Standing in front of the line at the Lady Bears' bench was head coach Kellie Harper — with her arms open wide — ready to give her lone senior a hug.
Gitzen smiled as she embraced Harper. She smiled as she hugged her assistant coaches, including Jon Harper and Jackie Stiles.
The scoreboard read that Stanford had a 55-46 lead. It was the last game where Gitzen will ever wear a Lady Bears uniform as the team's improbable Sweet 16 run in the NCAA Tournament came to an end.
