"I came here to start the legacy of Drury wrestling"

It's easy to find bad news when it comes to college wrestling programs.

Since the 1988-89 school year, 161 wrestling programs have been discontinued at all levels of the NCAA – including Missouri State in 1994. During that time, only 61 schools added the sport.

Good news came with the 62nd school to add wrestling, when Drury University made the announcement in November.

It was an easy call, Drury Director of Athletics Mark Fisher said.

He was the AD at Springfield Public Schools before taking the Drury job in 2015. He saw firsthand the disappointment of talented high school wrestlers who had to choose between wrestling in college or staying in the area for higher education.
