Three hunters were successful this elk season.
A hunter killed a bull elk during the archery portion of elk-hunting season Oct. 15-23, and two bull elk were taken during the firearms portion Dec. 10-18, according to reports from the Missouri Department of Conservation.
Those three Missouri hunters were selected for one of five elk permits issued in 2022 through a random drawing of 9,684 applicants.
As a native species in Missouri, elk were extirpated u2015 or wiped out u2015 in the late 1800s in the state because of unregulated hunting.

About 100 elk were reintroduced to the Ozarks starting in 2011.
