He grew up near Fair Grove and played football for the Fair Grove High School Eagles.

But Doug Kyle discovered his real passion later in life — not on the gridiron but in his keen ability to smash clay targets on a skeet-shooting range.

Kyle, a reserve deputy with the Texas County Sheriff's Office, scored his biggest win earlier this month at the National Skeet Shooting Association's World Skeet Championships in San Antonio, Texas.

Competing against 367 other skeet shooters from around the world, Kyle won the Wayne Mayes Championship, named after the legendary shotgunner who held 42 World Championship titles and six skeet world records before he died in 2013.
