Isaiah Davis was the heart and soul of Joplin in 2019 when he led the Eagles to the state championship game. After helping lead South Dakota State to the FCS National Championship as a freshman, he came up just short again.
Davis ran for 178 yards and scored three touchdowns including an 85-yard score late in the fourth quarter to give the Jackrabbits the lead.
Sam Houston responded with a 16-play, 65-yard touchdown drive to give it a 23-21 lead with 16 seconds left. It held on for the national title.
Davis led Joplin to the Missouri Class 6 state championship game during his senior season, rushing for 2,283 yards and 45 touchdowns on 253 carries.
