Last Saturday, the 2018 dove season in Missouri opened. Many hunters were disappointed in the start of the season for several reasons. The drought of this summer hurt the fields around the state by not producing the sunflowers and other grain that attracts the birds.
Although many hunters were disappointed, there were some bright spots. Larry Underwood found a spot near Cassville where a cornfield had been cut and the doves moved in to pick up the corn left on the field. Underwood said, “We spotted this field while scouting several ponds that usually have some teal by opening day this coming Saturday.
