Lubbock Christian’s stifling defense spoiled Drury’s national championship dreams for the second straight time on Friday night.
The undefeated and top-ranked Lady Chaps frustrated the Lady Panthers through much of the 69-59 victory in the NCAA Division II title game in Columbus, Ohio.
That wasn't the case in the last 6 minutes, though: Drury stormed back with a 17-point rally that included 12 straight points. The Lady Panthers whittled a 21-point deficit to four — at 63-59 — on freshman Allie Clevenger’s trey with 57 seconds left.
Lubbock Christian (23-0) scored its final six points on free throws, though, as Drury was forced to foul to get the ball back.
