A year ago around this time, Missouri head men's basketball coach Cuonzo Martin raved about the efforts of Dru Smith and how he felt the Evansville, Indiana, native was deserving of first-team Southeastern Conference honors.
Smith didn't fall short of that mark this year.
The standout was named to the SEC coaches all-conference first team, the league announced Tuesday.
The first and second teams each featured eight players picked by the league coaches, with Missouri's Jeremiah Tilmon earning second-team honors.
Smith was also named to the coaches all-defensive team, a five-player list.
Alabama's Herbert Jones was named by the coaches as SEC player of the year and defensive player of the year.
