Down to its 'last resort,' Missouri State eliminates field hockey program

Missouri State Director of Athletics Kyle Moats announced Monday the elimination of the school’s field hockey program, pulling the plug on a program that includes 17 current and seven incoming student-athletes.

The school will replace field hockey with beach volleyball, a spring sport that will play games at the facility at the southwest corner of Hammons Student Center.

Field hockey’s 12 scholarships will go away, and the current players on scholarship will have the option of transferring elsewhere and being able to practice and compete immediately, or to keep their scholarship at Missouri State to finish off their degree.
