Introducing children to disgusting things is always a treat, and a second grade teacher managed to work into the mix a lesson of distinguishing between facts and opinions.
Sarah Mancusi wanted to teach her class at Helen Mathews Elementary the differences between facts and opinions and how they can use facts to back up their opinions.
Thanks to the Nixa Education Foundation, the elementary school received a grant to purchase the "Disgusting Critter" series, Mancusi told the News-Leader Thursday. The Penguin Random House books are by Elise Gravel and offer an illustrated nonfiction series about disgusting creatures for beginning readers.
