The Springfield Conservation Nature Center is holding a managed deer hunt this weekend. The hunt is part of a city-wide strategy to manage Springfield's urban deer population, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.
"(The managed hunts) are part of a comprehensive plan to try to limit deer numbers inside Springfield’s city limits and maintain a level that’s safe for citizens and healthy for deer," MDC stated.
These hunts, along with others at Lake Springfield and Fellows Lake, are part of the city's bow-hunting ordinance, which passed in 2014. The ordinance allows archery deer hunting within city limits.
