The home of the Springfield Cardinals is changing hands in ownership.
Ahead of a Wednesday press conference on the future of the stadium, a City of Springfield web page appeared to be ready to announce that the City is purchasing Hammons Field, a downtown ballpark that has housed the Double-A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals since 2005.
The 8,000-seat facility, also the home of Missouri State University baseball, has been in question since the Revocable Trust of John Q. Hammons filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in 2016.
