The latest results for Chronic Wasting Disease revealed that positive cases were found in four new counties. There is good and bad news, says a wildlife supervisor.
The disease, commonly referred to as CWD, affects the deer's' nervous system and it is always fatal.
Missouri Department of Conservation samples and tests deer for CWD each year. Between July 2021 to April 2022, more than 32,000 deer were sampled, 86 of which tested positive for CWD. Since the department started testing for the disease in 2012, the latest figures brings the total number of CWD cases found in Missouri to 292 out of more than 210,000 tissue samples tested.
