Catholic is headed to the state semifinals for the second straight year after a 2-0 win over Nevada on Thursday evening in Springfield.
Senior star Coleman Morrison was excellent on the mound while throwing a complete-game two-hitter and striking out 14 against a team that had been shut out one other time all year. He struck out the side in the bottom of the seventh to send the Irish to the Class 4 state semifinals after finishing as the Class 3 runners-up a year ago.
Catholic's two runs came on one swing of the bat by Logan Ripper who put a two-run bomb over the left-center field wall in the top of the seventh inning.
