St. Louis Cardinals fan-favorite Adam Wainwright, in his final season, told reporters that the current plan is for him to make a rehab appearance in Springfield on Tuesday.
Nursing a groin injury that has kept him out early in the season, Wainwright said he expects to begin a rehab assignment at Hammons Field when the Cardinals play a 6:35 p.m. game against Midland. Wainwright's appearance is not official as of Friday night.
The 41-year-old right-handed pitcher is in his 18th season with the franchise. He has 195 wins over his career and has finished in the top seven of NL Cy Young Award voting five times.
