FRISCO, Texas – Grateful, happy, blessed. Blake Ahearn checks all the boxes when describing life in year two coaching the NBA G-League’s Austin Spurs.
“You get to be part of probably the best organization maybe in sports in the last 20 years,” he said prior to a recent road game at Texas. “I’m taking all the notes I can and I’m writing everything down.”
Anytime the San Antonio organization is mentioned, one name immediately comes to mind: Gregg Popovich, the Spurs’ incomparable and future Hall of Fame head coach since 1996, leading them to five NBA titles and earning three league coach of the year honors.
