Alize Johnson has been a game-changer during his first season in the Missouri State men’s basketball program.
That became more evident in the voting for postseason awards released Tuesday.
The junior from Williamsport, Pennsylvania, was named the Newcomer of the Year in the Missouri Valley Conference, and became Missouri State’s first All-MVC first-team player in five years.
Conference coaches, media members and communications personnel picked Johnson as the top new player in the league, making it two in a row for the program, after Dequon Miller won it a season ago.
Johnson is the first Missouri State player since Kyle Weems in 2011 and 2012 to earn All-MVC first team honors, and the 12th Bear overall to reach the first team.
