It was tight and tightly officiated. It was fast-paced.
It was simply a wonderful back-and-forth quarterfinal game in the Pink & White Classic.
Mount Vernon and Strafford traded leads like teeter totters rise and fall on Tuesday night — until the last few minutes, that is. That’s when darting, dribbling and dazzling guard Lacy Stokes stepped up from an already-strong game to boost Mount Vernon to a 54-49 victory.
She scored 29 points, made trip after trip to the foul line and also made several perfect passes that set up teammates for easy lay-ins. Some of those assists came as undefeated Mount Vernon surged ahead by a game-high nine points — 51-42 — late in the fourth quarter.
