The third day of the NFL Draft saw Mississippi State linebacker Matthew Wells selected with the second pick of the sixth round (178th overall) by the New England Patriots.
Wells joins fellow Bulldogs Chris White and Deontae Skinner, who are also linebackers for the Patriots. The former three-star prospect from Lawrence County is the first State player picked by the Patriots since 1977.
The 6-foot-2, 222-pounder played in 52 career games at MSU, earning 33 starts. Wells finished his career with 165 tackles, 22 for loss, six sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and an interception.
