For whatever reason, Mississippi State and Ole Miss seem to be consistently mixed up more than any other two schools in the nation.
But during Saturday’s New Orleans Bowl, a bit of a wild card was thrown into the mix.
Early in the first quarter against Louisiana-Lafayette, Southern Miss called a timeout, but initially it wasn’t charged to the Golden Eagles. No, instead, the referee said Mississippi State had called it.
Naturally, the crowd booed loudly when their school was called by the wrong name before the ref corrected himself.
Southern Miss, though, went on to win 28-21 to offer some consolation for what they seemed to find an insult.
