Vanderbilt’s Allen Sills, a Mississippi State alum, is hired as NFL’s chief medical officer

Dr. Allen Sills, a neurosurgeon at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has been named the NFL’s chief medical officer. The job is a new full-time position based in New York.

Sills, 52, a Mississippi State alum and a native of Starkville, Miss., founded and serves as the co-director of the Vanderbilt Sports Concussion Center. He is also a neurological surgery, orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation professor at the university.

The NFL’s CMO will work with all team medical staffs, the NFL Players Association and its advisers as well as experts on the league’s medical committees.
