Five players on the UConn women's basketball team are among the 30 preseason candidates for the John R. Wooden Award.
The list revealed Tuesday includes Huskies seniors Kia Nurse, Gabby Williams and Azurá Stevens, and juniors Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson. Stevens, the only non-starter in the group, is a Duke transfer who is eligible this season after sitting out 2016-17.
Ohio State senior Kelsey Mitchell, who has a shot at breaking the NCAA's career scoring record this season, also was named a preseason candidate.
Duke, Louisville, Mississippi State, Oregon, Tennessee and Texas each have two players on the list.
