Mississippi State drew one step closer to naming its quarterback for the 2016 season on Friday as Elijah Staley announced his intentions to transfer.

The 6-foot-6, 249-pound sophomore southpaw was one of four signal callers competing for the starting job in the Bulldogs’ fall camp.

“After much thought, I have been granted my release and will be transferring from Mississippi State,” Staley tweeted. “I would like to thank the bulldog fans, community, and coaching staff for this opportunity the past two years. I look forward to continuing my football career at another school, and I am excited about what is in store for the future!
