Sexton selected by St. Louis in 18th round

Three picks after Vance Tatum, Austin Sexton became the sixth Mississippi State pitcher picked in the 2016 MLB Draft.

Sexton was selected in the 18th round (556th overall) by the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, the same team that also drafted Dakota Hudson in the first round on Thursday.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound right-hander from Huntsville, Alabama is 8-3 on the year with a 3.67 ERA, 92 strikeouts and 24 walks over 95 2/3 innings.

It is the first time for Sexton to be drafted and will have until July 15 to sign with the Cardinals or return to college.
