Mississippi State’s Preston Smith did not have to wait long to hear his name called on the second day of the NFL Draft.
The 6-foot-5, 271-pound defensive end was the sixth selection of the second round (38th overall) by the Washington Redskins. Smith is the fifth Bulldog to be drafted by the franchise and first since Fred Smoot in 2001. It is the highest an MSU player has been picked by the Redskins.
Smith is also the second-highest MSU defensive lineman to be drafted since 1983.
