STARKVILLE, Miss. — Tied 0-0 through nine innings, the Mississippi State baseball team came up short as the Diamond Dawgs fell 1-0 in a 10-inning series opener with No. 21 Southern Miss on Friday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field.
With the loss the Diamond Dawgs fall to 4-1, while Southern Miss improves to 4-0.
Redshirt-junior southpaw Ethan Small got the start on the mound and allowed just one hit and fanned a career-high 13 batters in seven innings of work in the MSU loss. He retired the first five batters he faced, four via strikeout.
