Mississippi State blew out FCS foe Charleston Southern 49-0 in its season-opener Saturday.
Here are five takeaways from the easy win.
1. Nick Fitzgerald picked up where he left off
The skinny: Nick Fitzgerald came of age late in 2016 and much has been made of how good he could be in 2017. He picked up where he left off last year, throwing for 239 yards and two touchdowns to go along with 43 yards and a score on the ground; he went to the sideline midway through the third quarter. One issue: Fitzgerald only completed 53 percent of his passes on the day, which is on par from a year ago, and that number needs to rise.
