A Mississippi State basketball spokesman confirmed to the Starkville Daily News on Thursday that sophomore guard Xavian Stapleton has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will be out for six months.
The news was first reported by Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports.
Stapleton’s is scheduled to undergo surgery in early September.
A transfer from Louisiana Tech, Stapleton was already slated to miss the 2015-16 season due to NCAA rules.
As a freshman at Louisiana Tech, Stapleton played in all 36 games and drew one start. He averaged 6.7 points per game and was second on the team with 23 blocked shots.
