Mississippi State is coming off three straight losing seasons but a new coach and a talented freshman have raised expectations in Starkville.
The Bulldogs were picked to finish eighth in the Southeastern Conference by the media while freshman guard Malik Newman was voted second team All-SEC.
“It’s an honor,” Newman said in a release. “I see the list and I see a lot of great players. I look forward to competing against these guys every night.”
Ben Howland‘s team received 203 points, one behind South Carolina and 19 ahead of in-state rival Ole Miss.
