COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Mississippi State women’s basketball team flew on short notice to face the No. 1 South Carolina Gamecocks on Sunday for a rescheduled conference matchup and lost 80-68.
The matchup was moved up from Feb. 6 due to COVID-related issues for both teams’ originally scheduled opponents. The Bulldogs fell to 9-4 (0-1 SEC), while the Gamecocks improved to 13-1 (1-1 SEC).
South Carolina dominated the second half of the first quarter, holding the Bulldogs scoreless for four and a half minutes during a 13-0 run. The Gamecocks ended the first frame up 23-14, using their size advantage to claim rebounds while the Bulldogs missed several open looks.
