Ben Howland’s young team looked young for the majority of this game, but Mississippi State overcame youth caused mistakes to defeat Norfolk State 78-74 tonight.
Four out of five starters for Mississippi State scored in the double digits tonight, with Quinndary Weatherspoon leading all scorers for both teams with 22 points. Weatherspoon also snagged 6 rebounds and a pair of blocks in his outing tonight.
Weatherspoon was particularly active and accurate in the first half with 14 of Weatherspoon’s 22 points coming before halftime. In the second half, however, Tyson Carter took over. In his first collegiate game, Carter drained 5 of 7 shots from behind the arc en route to scoring 17 points tonight, 14 of which came in the second half.
