Mississippi State saw its second signee selected on Friday as the New York Mets took pitcher Colin Holderman in the ninth round (280th overall).
The 6-foot-6, 220-pounder from Heartland Community College in Illinois started 12 games this spring going 8-1 with a 1.57 ERA and 92 strikeouts in only 74 1/3 innings of work. Holderman also hit .489 with 87 hits, 16 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 58 RBIs and 15 steals as the team’s designated hitter.
Holderman began his collegiate career at Southern Illinois. He pitched in 12 games and played in five others as a position player.
