The Outback Bowl has been an up and down experience for the Mississippi State football team. MSU hasn’t been able to really put Iowa away early and it’s because the Hawkeyes are pretty good, but also MSU has made several mistakes. The Bulldogs have struggled with penalties at times and, well, it has cost them quite a bit against the Iowa Hawkeyes.
And there’s one penalty in particular that Maurice Smitherman would certainly love back.
With the Bulldogs up 6-0 on the Iowa Hawkeyes early in the second quarter of the Outback Bowl, Mississippi State’s junior defensive back was tagged with a targeting penalty, and was then subsequently ejected.
