Marrero drafted by father’s organization

Elih Marrero was the sixth Mississippi State signee to be picked in the 2015 MLB Draft when he was selected in the 29th round (865th overall) by the Cincinnati Reds.

Marrero is a 5-foot-9, 185-pound catcher from Coral Gables, Fla., and the son of former big league backstop Eli Marrero. The elder Marrero manages the Reds’ single-A affiliate Daytona Tortugas with former Diamond Dog hurlers Evan Mitchell and Nick Routt on his roster.

Elih Marrero was a member of USA Baseball’s 18U National Team and a three-time Perfect Game Underclassman All-American honorable mention and a 2nd team All-American as a senior.
