Mangum named Freshman All-American

Mississippi State outfielder Jake Mangum received his third Freshman All-American honor on Monday, this time from the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Mangum leads the Southeastern Conference with a .408 batting average, tops among freshmen in the country. The Pearl native also had 84 hits, 12 doubles, three triples, a home run, 28 RBIs and six stolen bases.

Mangum is the first Bulldog freshman to earn All-American status since Jonathan Holder in 2012. He was also the first MSU freshman to be named first team All-SEC since Rafael Palmeiro in 1983.
