It all came so suddenly for Garrett Shrader.
Mississippi State’s true freshman backup quarterback was on the sidelines late in the second quarter of MSU’s game against Southern Miss on Saturday when word came that starting signal caller Tommy Stevens was hurt. Stevens wasn’t returning to the game.
Despite his youth, Shrader entered with the poise of a veteran and helped the Bulldogs close out a 38-15 win over the Golden Eagles. It was, by any measure, an incredibly successful debut for Shrader.
“Since I’ve known (Shrader), he’s a guy that the situation is never too big for him,” Mississippi State head coach Joe Moorhead said.
