The first domino of the 15 players Mississippi State had drafted fell late Monday.
Two-way signee Colin Holderman inked a $400,000 contract with the New York Mets after being selected in the ninth round (280th overall). That pick held a slot value of $163,700.
The Mets drafted the 6-foot-6, 220-pound right-hander as a pitcher out of Heartland (Illinois) Community College where he was 8-1 with a 1.57 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 74 1/3 innings. Holderman also hit .489 with 87 hits, 16 doubles, three triples, 13 home runs, 58 RBIs and 15 stolen bases.
