This Mississippi State baseball team did beautiful things this season. For the 10th time ever in school history, the Mississippi State Bulldogs made it to Omaha, but they did it in probably the most improbable way possible.
The Bulldogs overachieved this year. And that itself might be an overstatement.
State, three games into the season, was left without a head coach. Because of what was happening off the field, the future of Mississippi State baseball was thrown into question and Andy Cannizaro was on his way out. That left the Bulldogs in Gary Henderson’s hands.
Prior to this season, Gary Henderson had never made it through a regional, never won a Super Regional, and hadn’t ever coached a College World Series game.
