Cardinals take Hudson in the first round

Mississippi State’s Dakota Hudson had to wait three hours and nearly the entire first round of the MLB Draft to pass before his name was finally called.

The St. Louis Cardinals selected the junior right-handed pitcher with the 34th and final pick of the first round. Hudson was the third player the Cardinals drafted in the first round.

Hudson was projected as high as No. 9 in mock drafts leading up to Thursday’s draft but 16 pitchers were selected ahead of him including six college right-handers.

Hudson’s draft slot carries a value of $1.
