The 2017 Egg Bowl was all about two players – Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald, who suffered a gruesome ankle injury early, and Ole Miss wide receiver A.J. Brown, a Starkville native who came home and ruined Thanksgiving for the home folk.
Ole Miss beat Mississippi State 31-28 to finish 6-6, a remarkable achievement considering the travails – both off the field and on – that the Rebels went through in the past six months. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, finished 8-4, and the loss and Fitzgerald’s injury likely dropped them way down the bowl pecking order in the SEC.
